Following Tuesday’s doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants, manager Buck Showalter told reporters that he will not be in the dugout for Wednesday’s game.
The 65-year-old said he will undergo a medical procedure. However, he expects to return as soon as Thursday for the series finale against the Giants.
It is not yet known who will take over the manager role because bench coach Glenn Sherlock is still out due to COVID-19.
Right-hander Chris Bassitt is scheduled to start Wednesday for the Mets. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
