One group of people may be lucky enough to soon see themselves enrolled in a brand new UBI program in California.
The lucky group are Silicon Valley high school students in the senior class from low income families.
The program’s goal is to combat poverty.
What does this new UBI program look like?
Homelessness is a growing issue in California.
The seniors must be dealing with homelessness to qualify.
The proposal is Bill SB 1341.
The known name is the California Success, Opportunity, and Academic Resilience, or SOAR.
The California Senate Education Committee has cleared the bill.
If this bill passes, it would begin immediately after graduation and continue until students went to college, vocational training, or started working.
3.8% of the student population in California are homeless.
Data shows that for the 2020-21 year, 183,000 children were homeless and 15,000 were seniors in the state of California.
