Sen. Schumer visits Canandaigua to introduce Rural Outdoor Investment Act

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer visited Canandaigua earlier this month to introduce the Rural Outdoor Investment Act, which could bring millions of dollars to the Finger Lakes region.

The exact amount of funding is unclear, but Sen. Schumer said it includes investments in outdoor recreation facilities.

“So many of our communities have great waterfronts, but access is limited because of a lack of boat ramps, boardwalks, or other outdoor facilities,” said Schumer, according to News10 NBC.

Schumer stated that the American Rescue Plan, which passed Congress in March, has allotted $750 million for travel and tourism. New York State could receive $45 million of that funding. Schumer’s new act also includes funding for community planning efforts to grow local outdoor opportunities and business assistance.

Leaders in Ontario County- including Ontario County Chamber of Commerce President Ethan Fogg and Valerie Knoblauch of Finger Lakes Visitors Connections- has expressed support for Schumer’s plan.
