The New York Yankees fell to the Baltimore Orioles, 2-1, in 11 innings on Friday night to open the three-game series at Oriole Park.
The Yankees offense really struggled. They went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight guys on base. Giancarlo Stanton drove in the only run with a RBI single to right-center in the third.
The pitching certainly wasn’t the issue. Jordan Montgomery made his second start of the season and tossed five shutout innings.
Wandy Peralta allowed the game-tying RBI single in the seventh. Jonathan Loaisiga (0.2 IP), Miguel Castro (1.0 IP) and Lucas Luetge (1.0 IP) each had scoreless appearances. Clarke Schmidt loaded the bases in the 11th before Aroldis Chapman walked in the game-winning run.
Jameson Taillon will get the ball Saturday night as the Yankees look to bounce back. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
