The Rochester Red Wings split a doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons on Friday at Frontier Field. Rochester won the first game, 3-2, in walk-off fashion and lost game two, 9-4.
In game one, right-hander Luis Reyes got the start for the Red Wings. He allowed two runs on six sit hits over 4.2 innings while striking out three and walking two.
Alberto Baldonado and Tyler Clippard each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the second inning after Stevie Berman lined a RBI single to left.
In the top half of the third, Vinny Capra made it 2-0 Bisons after he homered to left. In the bottom half of the frame, Luis Garcia lined a solo home run over the right-field wall to put Rochester on the board.
The Red Wings tied the game at two in the fourth after Richard Urena launched a solo home run over the wall in right-center.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jake Noll delivered a walk-off single to right to give Rochester the 3-2 victory.
In game two, Buffalo’s offense exploded for nine runs, including eight in one inning.
Jerry Rodriguez got the start for the Red Wings and lasted just two innings, allowing six runs on six hits while walking one. Sterling Sharp also struggled in relief as he allowed three runs and only recorded two outs. Ben Braymer, Jordan Weems, Sam Clay and Carl Edwards Jr. each had scoreless appearances.
The Bisons scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Logan Warmoth lined a RBI double to center.
In the third, Buffalo just kept scoring runs. Gabriel Moreno hammered a two-run double to right to start the eight-run inning. LJ Talley followed that with a RBI single to left. Talley later scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0. Mallex Smith grounded one through the middle for a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-0. Nick Podkul followed that with a RBI groundout and Talley capped off the big inning with a bases-loaded walk.
Rochester scored their first run of the game in the fourth on a passed ball. Later in the inning, Adrian Sanchez smoked a RBI single to center to make it 9-2.
The Red Wings added another pair of runs in the fifth. Jake Noll smacked a RBI double to left and one batter later Nick Banks hammered a RBI double to right.
The two teams will continue this six-game series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
