Here’s a general guide to Supplemental Security Income payments.
What is the Supplemental Security Income program?
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a program that sends out monthly payments to eligible people. If you already get SSDI or retirement benefits, you may be eligible to claim SSI too. Read more about it here.
Do I have to pay tax on it?
SSI payments are not taxable. They are not considered a part of Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC).
Social Security benefits however, need to be reported, and potentially taxed. The amount will depend on your income and filing status.
