U.S. Rep. John Katko is among the hundreds of members of Congress newly sanctioned by Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday.
The new sanctions are viewed as a retaliatory move after the U.S. issued sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Katko is one of twenty-five members of Congress from New York on Russia’s “stop list,” meaning they are barred from entering the country, according to The Citizen.
“Vladimir Putin and his regime will not deter me. I will continue supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion,” said Katko.
Katko had previously expressed support for the U.S. providing military and other assistance to Ukraine. He supported giving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Velenskyy “everything he asked for” following the leader’s address to Congress in March.
