Americans could be getting a stimulus check to offset gas prices.
Checks would be sent in months were the national average is above $4 per gallon.
Who will get the payment?
The Gas Rebate Act of 2022 would sent eligible Americans an energy rebate of $100 plus an additional $100 for each dependent. Read more about it here.
This stimulus is designed to ease the financial impact of American families who are experiencing inflation.
The checks would be distributed similarly to the stimulus checks sent out by the federal government in 2020 and 2021. Single filers earning less than $75,000 would get the full rebate but the checks will be phased out for those with higher income. The same will be true for joint filers earning less than $150,000.
The act is expected to meet opposition from republicans in Congress.
