Judge sides with police union, strikes down Geneva Police Review Board

State Supreme Court Justice Craig Doran has ruled that the Geneva Police Review Board is invalid.

The Finger Lakes Times reports the ruling comes on a challenge filed by the union that represents most Geneva police officers.

The union went to court seeking an injunction against the creation of the civilian panel, saying it violates the collective bargaining agreement between the city and the union. The board was many months in the making. It was to originally have been called the Police Accountability Board, but many officers felt the name was prejudicial. We’ll have more information on today’s ruling when it becomes available.
