Sabres blanked by Lightning, 5-0

The Buffalo Sabres suffered their third straight loss on Sunday night after falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-0, at Amalie Arena.

Buffalo had 28 shots on goal, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

Craig Anderson stopped 23-of-28 shots, but he didn’t get much help from his defense.

Corey Perry, Ondrej Palat, Brandon Hagel, Nikita Kucherov and Ross Colton scored for Tampa Bay. Brian Elliot made 28 saves to earn the shutout.

Buffalo finished 0-for-2 on the power play and a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Sabres will head to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
