The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team (10-3, 5-1) battled and put together a four-quarter rally against the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels (13-0, 6-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome, but fell just short in a 14-12 loss.
The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter and 7-7 at the break, but North Carolina outscored Syracuse 5-3 in the third to take a 12-10 lead into the final quarter. Natalie Smith scored for the Orange with 3:09 left to cut the Tar Heels lead to one, but North Carolina answered back with a goal to seal the victory.
Meaghan Tyrell led Syracuse with four goals and Smith recorded a hat trick.
