The New York Mets made an Opening-Day trade.
New York acquired right-hander Adonis Medina from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations, the teams announced Thursday.
Medina will be sent to Triple-A Syracuse. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated Yennsy Díaz for assignment.
Medina, 25, has appeared in five Major League games over the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, posting a 3.86 ERA over 11.2 innings.
