Syracuse Mets fall to SWB RailRiders on Opening Day

The Syracuse Mets dropped their season opener, 5-0, to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at NBT Bank Stadium on Tuesday night.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Oswald Peraza crushed a solo home run over the wall in left-center and Ronald Guzman lined a RBI single to center. The RailRiders added to their lead in the eighth after Estevan Florial smashed three-run home run over the right-field wall.

Antonio Santos allowed three runs over 1.2 innings and Stephen Nogosek recorded the final four outs for the Mets.

Syracuse had just four hits and Cody Bohanek and Travis Blankenhorn each had two.

The Mets went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Mike Montgomery will get the ball Wednesday night in game two of this six-game series as Syracuse looks for its first win of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
