The Rochester Red Wings opened the 2022 season with a 5-0 loss to the Toledo Mud Hens on Tuesday evening at Fifth Third Field.
Right-handed pitcher Jackson Tetreault got the Opening Day start for the Red Wings. He surrendered five hits, four runs, three of which were earned, all while striking out five.
Toledo’s Jacob Robson opened the scoring with a solo home run to right-center in the second.
The Mud Hens extended their lead in the third after Daz Cameron lined a two-run double to left and Josh Lester lifted a sacrifice fly to left.
Toledo’s fifth and final run of the game came in the fifth after Ryan Kreidler ripped a RBI double to left.
Rochester couldn’t get anything going offensively as they had just five hits and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
Tres Barrera had two of the teams five hits. Joey Meneses, Richard Urena and Nick Banks also picked up hits in the loss.
Carson Teel, Erasmo Ramirez, Tyler Clippard and Reed Garrett each tossed an inning out of the bullpen. Teel surrendered the only other run, giving up two hits and striking out a pair. Ramirez and Clippard each collected a pair of strike outs in their innings of work. Garrett finished the game for the Wings on the mound, working a clean inning and striking out one.
Aaron Sanchez will get the ball Wednesday night in game two of the six-game series as Rochester looks for its first win of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
