The Auburn School Board unanimously approved a nearly $90.3 million dollar budget for 2023 at its meeting Tuesday night.
The Citizen reports the spending plan includes a 2.5% increase in the tax levy, the total amount to be raised in taxes, but school officials say that number could be lower if the district receives more aid from the state, which has not yet passed its own budget. The $90,286,532 budget calls for spending 7.7% more than in the current year. The tax levy increase is below the state-mandated 3.18%.
The district still hopes to get more so-called Foundation Aid from the state. School officials have disputed the way the state calculates that aid for years. Only a handful of people attended the interactive presentation on the budget proposal. District residents will have their say at the ballot box May 17. A final public hearing will be held May 10.
