New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo has been out of the starting lineup for the last two spring training games because of a stiff neck.
Manager Buck Showalter told reporters Tuesday that he received a cortisone-type injection in his neck and his status for Opening Day remains unclear.
If Nimmo is unavailable to play on Opening Day, the Mets would likely move Starling Marte to center field and Dominic Smith would likely fill-in at one of the corner outfield spots.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played a full season since 2018 due to injuries. In the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he hit a career-high 17 home runs.
