The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is urging Verizon customers to be weary of a new texting scam.
The scam text appears to be from your own phone number and claims you have won a prize, according to WROC. If you receive a text like this, the BBB said don’t click the link- It will take you to sites looking for personal information. In some cases, clicking the link reportedly redirected customers to Russian sites.
Verizon has stated they are aware of the scam and are working to block these messages.
Melanie McGovern, a Buffalo-based communications director for BBB, said scammers are primarily looking for your credit card information via linked surveys. She said scams like this are commonplace and something all carriers have been grappling with as of late.
