The Auburn City Council got an update from Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council (OWLMC) Director Dr. Adam Effler at its meeting last week.
OWLMC works with the city of Auburn, the town of Owasco, Cayuga County and other surrounding towns and agencies on preserving the water quality in the lake. Auburn City Clerk Chuck Mason says OWLMC submitted proposed watershed regulations to the state in 2020, but he says the wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly in Albany.
Mason says OWLMC is also putting together what’s known as a Nine Element Plan for protecting the lake and surrounding watershed.
OWLMC has also launched a Lake Friendly Living plan to encourage residents to be good stewards of the watershed.
