Police: One in custody, will face murder charge after Auburn shooting

The Auburn Police Department says one person is in custody after a homicide in the city last week.

On March 15 around 1:40 a.m. police responded to Swift’s Tavern for the report of a shooting.


John Wesley Smith III died from injuries sustained in the shooting.

Police said in a news release that Shameek Marie Copes, turned herself in to authorities in South Carolina.

She was charged with second-degree murder.
