The Buffalo Sabres three-game win streak came to an end on Friday night with a 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals at KeyBank Center.
Washington won the shootout, 2-1.
Jeff Skinner recorded his eighth multi-goal game of the season with a pair of goals and Victor Olofsson netted the other goal for Buffalo. Tage Thompson scored the lone goal in the shootout.
Dustin Tokarski stopped 37-of-40 shots in the loss.
Anthony Mantha, Alex Ovechkin and Nick Jenson tallied for Washington. Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored in the shootout.
Ilya Samsonov turned aside 20-of-23 shots to earn the victory.
Buffalo finished 0-for-1 on the power play and a perfect 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
The Sabres begin a two-game road trip on Sunday when they face the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Face-off is slated for 5 p.m.
