Cornell suffers first loss of season, falls to Penn 15-11

The Cornell men’s lacrosse team (6-1, 1-1 Ivy League) suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon after falling to Penn (4-2, 1-1 Ivy League), 15-11, at Franklin Field.

John Piatelli scored four goals to lead the Big Red. CJ Kirst recorded a hat trick and finished with five points while Michael Long tallied twice and also had five points. Blake Aiden and Spencer Wirtheim chipped in with a goal to round out the scoring.

Chayse Ierlan made 12 saves in the loss.

Rubin Cam and Sam Handley each netted a hat trick for Penn while Jack Schultz, Ben Bedard and James Shipley also recorded multi-goal games. Edward Arnold, Kaleb Fernandez and Dylan Gergar each notched a goal.

Patrick Burkinshaw stopped 15 shots to earn the win.

Cornell will try to bounce back on Tuesday at Colgate. Face-off is slated for 5 p.m.
