Newark seeks go-ahead from DEC to keep composting program

Village of Newark officials have applied to renew a permit to continue offering a free composting program to its residents.

As part of the program, the village converts wastewater sludge from its treatment plant into compostable material. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is holding a public comment period before issuing a new permit, according to Finger Lakes Times.

You can view the permit renewal documents at the DEC’s Region 8 office in Avon from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday – Friday. Scheduling an appointment? Call Guillermo Saar at (585) 226-2466. You can mail written comments to Saar at this address by March 31: DEC Region 8 Headquarters, 6274 East Avon-Lima Road, Avon, NY 14414.
