Many people in the US will have their medical debt erased from their credit reports.
These changes will go into effect July 1.
Which credit agencies are doing this?
Equifax, Experian, and Transunion announced that they will be removing up to 70% of medical collection debts. Read more about it here.
This decision comes after two years in the pandemic. These changes come in order to help patients focus on their recovery instead of their bills.
Effective July 1, 2022medical collections debt will no longer be included on consumer credit reports. They have also increased the amount of time before unpaid collections debt is added back into te report from six months to a year.
This additional time has been built in to give consumers the time to work with their insurance or healthcare provider. The first half of 2023 will jot include medical debt under $500 on credit reports.
