The Cornell men’s lacrosse team (6-0, 1-0 Ivy) edged Yale (3-2, 0-1 Ivy), 13-12, in the Ivy opener on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkoppf Field.
Cornell led 12-5 early in the fourth quarter, but Yale made things interesting as they outscored the Big Red 7-2 in the quarter and almost tied the game.
CJ Kirst netted four goals to lead the Big Red while Blake Aiden and John Piatelli recored hat tricks. Brian Tevlin also finished with a multi-goal game as he scored twice. Will Cabrera, Jack Monfort, Christian Cropp, Matt Brandau and Thomas Bragg each chipped in with a goal to round out the scoring.
Chayse Ierlan made 18 saves to earn his sixth win of the season.
Three players finished with multi-goal games for Yale. Chris Lyons recorded a hat trick while Leo Johnson and Brian Tevlin each scored twice.
Jared Paquette made 18 saves in the loss.
Cornell will be on the road next Saturday as they face the University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m.
