Yankees place RHP Domingo Germán on 60-day injured list

The New York Yankees placed RHP Domingo Germán on the 60-day injured list with right shoulder impingement syndrome, the team announced Friday.

By placing Germán on the IL, it opened up a spot on the 40-man roster for 1B Anthony Rizzo, who the Yankees re-signed to a two-year contract earlier this week.

Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Germán was dealing with “shoulder issues” in January and just recently started a throwing program.


Germán appeared in 22 games last year, posting a 4.58 ERA with 98 strikeouts and 27 walks in 98.1 innings.

Germán’s spot in the back end of the rotation could be filled by Luis Gil, Clarke Schmidt, or Michael King. The Yankees could also make a trade for s starting pitcher. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Thursday that the Yankees and Oakland Athletics have been talking about a potential trade. The A’s have two starting pitchers on the market in LHP Sean Manaea and RHP Frankie Montas.
