Tompkins County, Ithaca officials urge Starbucks to recognize unionizing efforts

Multiple Tompkins County and City of Ithaca officials sent a letter to Starbucks expressing support for unionizing efforts underway at three area locations.

The letter was sent to Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson, though Howard Schultz has recently returned to his position as CEO following an unsuccessful presidential campaign.

Starbucks workers began unionizing efforts in Buffalo, which have now spread all over the country. The three Starbucks locations in Tompkins County trying to unionize include one that had been open for just a few days before efforts began, according to Ithaca Voice.

Here is a list of local and state officials who signed the letter:

New York State Assemblymember: Anna Kelles

Tompkins County Legislators:

Shawna Black, Amanda Champion, Deborah Dawson, Anne Koreman, Gregory Mezey, and Veronica Pillar;

Common Council members:

Phoebe Brown, Robert Cantelmo, Jorge DeFendini, George McGonigal, Patrick Mehler, and Ducson Nguyen.
