Increased Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program benefits start this month.
Massachusetts received federal approval to change benefit amounts to an estimated $1.4 million. Over 200,000 Massachusetts household’s will see a boost in their SNAP benefits. One in seven Massachusetts residents receive SNAP benefits.
Low-Income Home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) will start late in march to roughly 300,000 households to residents who receive SNAP benefits and include a family member with a disability or who is at least 60 years old.
LIHEAP is also accepting applications for fuel assistance now through May 13th. The program helped over 135,000 households in the 2020-2021 heating season.
