Many Americans are able to claim mileage reimbursement for business purposes with the IRS, and in Dec. the rates changed.
The reimbursement is used for vehicles used for business, charity, medical purposes, or for moving in the U.S.
The best move, according to the IRS, is for taxpayers to choose the standard mileage rate for the first year they claim reimbursement.
They may then choose that rate or actual expenses.
Mileage rates set by the IRS for 2022
They apply to cars, vans, pick up trucks and panel trucks.
The rate for business use has risen by 2.5 cents per mile.
It is now 58.5 cents per mile.
If the reimbursement is for medical purposes or moving purposes by active duty Armed Forces members, then the rate is now $0.18 cents per mile.
The rate for charitable organizations is $.14 cents per mile and did not rise.
These changes were made based on variable costs that go into operating a vehicle.
