Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck to present policing report update to County Legislature

In June 2020, Governor Cuomo signed an executive order creating the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative in the wake of the death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police.

The order requires law enforcement agencies to present a report to the public on what they are doing to improve their operations and make them more responsive to community needs. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck will present an update on his department’s report to the County Legislature on Thursday. Schenck says the process of creating the report is a worthwhile exercise.

The meeting at 4:30 p.m. will be streamed on the county’s You Tube channel. The chair of the Legislature is former Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould. Law enforcement agencies that did not complete a report by April, 2021 lost state funding. Listen to my full Inside the FLX conversation with Sheriff Schenck below.
