Sabres’ Zemgus Girgensons to return to lineup Thursday

Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato told reporters Tuesday that forward Zemgus Girgensons will likely return for Thursday’s road game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Girgensons has been out since January 25 with an undisclosed lower-body injury and missed a total of 18 games.

The Sabres alternate captain was paired up with Cody Eakin and Kyle Okposo at Tuesday’s practice.

“I’m just happy to be back on the ice with all the guys on the same line again,” Girgensons said. “It brings lots of excitement to see what we can do.”

The 28-year-old has tallied 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists) in 34 games this season.

To make room for Girgensons on the roster, Buffalo placed forward Mark Jankowski on waivers. If he clears, he will be sent to Rochester.

Face-off for Thursday’s road game is scheduled for 9 p.m.
