Police say a Newark man was arrested following a traffic stop in the village.
According to a news release, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrested Fernando Espinosa, 54, of Newark for criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated, and multiple traffic violations.
The initial stop occurred in November 2021 where Espinosa was found to be intoxicated by alcohol. Upon a search, he was found to be in possession of approximately 1 gram of cocaine. Espinosa was taken to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for further processing where he provided a proper breath sample which yielded a 0.13% BAC and was released pending the analysis results of the suspected drug. The New York State Police Crime Laboratory later confirmed the substance to be cocaine.
Espinosa will appear in the Newark Village Court at a later date to answer charges.
