Three-goal third lifts Cornell over Colgate in Game 1 of ECAC Quarterfinals

The Cornell men’s hockey team scored three goals in the third period to top Colgate, 3-1, in Game 1 of the ECAC Quarterfinals on Friday night at Lynah Rink.

Ian Shane stopped 16-of-17 shots to earn the win for Cornell. Mitch Benson turned aside 40-of-43 shots for Colgate.

The Big Red went 1-for-6 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.


Ben Berard, Matt Stienburg and Kyle Penney scored for Cornell.

Matt Verboon scored the only goal for Colgate.

Cornell will try to sweep the best-of-three series on Saturday night at Lynah Rink. Face-off is slated for 7 p.m.
