It was a fantastic match at Penn Yan for the Section V Boys Class B Regional Qualifier. It came down to the wire, but the Newark Reds came away victorious over the Wellsville Lions, 45-41.
It was a very tight first half that saw Newark take a three-point lead into halftime. The competitiveness continued in the second half, resulting in a one point game with under two minutes to go. The Reds were able to secure the victory to move on to regionals.
Brayden Steve lead the way for the Reds with a game-high 22 points. Isaiah Camp chipped in with 9 points and Raeshawn Howard scored 8 for Newark.
Eli Schmidt paced the Lions with 16 points.
The Newark Reds will travel to Buffalo State on Saturday night to take on Allegany-Limestone. That game will tipoff at 7 p.m.
