First 100 marijuana retail licenses to be given to New Yorkers with prior convictions

New York State will give out roughly 100 of the state’s first marijuana retail licenses to people who have been previously convicted of a marijuana-related offense.

Governor Kathy Hochul is expected to make the official announcement on Thursday, March 10, though regulations have already been posted online by the state, according to News10 NBC.

Gov. Hochul wants $200 million of the state’s 2022-23 budget to go towards support for burgeoning cannabis retail businesses. The future sales from legal recreational cannabis are expected to bring billions to New York’s economy.

Finger Lakes Community College will host the Finger Lakes Cannabis Business Incubator Symposium on Saturday, March 26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More information and event tickets can be found here.
