Families that have been struggling since the child tax credit payments ended may be in luck in one specific state.
Legislation in New Mexico was recently passed that will send checks worth $175 to families as a child tax credit.
To qualify your income level is taken into account, which is currently unknown.
Anyone who asked for direct deposit on their federal taxes and claimed the CTC will see their refunds within the next three weeks.
Eligibility for the child tax credit
While the requirements have not been released for the New Mexico credit, they may be similar to the IRS’s as people wait for their credits now.
The requirements for qualifying for the advanced payments from the IRS included
- A 2019 or 2020 filed tax return
- Given information to receive payment to the IRS if you did not file taxes
- Lived in a home in the U.S.
- Had a child under 18
- Met income limits
