Ithaca Airport adds flights to Newark, drops Washington Dulles

The Ithaca Tompkins International Airport is scrapping flights to Washington Dulles and adding new flights to Newark Liberty International Airport in its place.

Ithaca’s airport is located just five miles away from Cornell University. The new flight schedule will go into effect this March, prompting mixed reactions from Cornell students who use the Ithaca airport to fly home, according to The Cornell Daily Sun.

United Airlines is currently the only airline providing service from Ithaca to Newark Airport. Some Cornell students opt to avoid traveling out of the Ithaca Airport altogether due to its limited direct flights. Students often fly out of Syracuse Hancock Intl. Airport instead, which is roughly an hour from campus and provides non-stop flights to 23 cities.

The change in United Airlines’ service out of the Ithaca Airport has to do a shortage of pilots, which is affecting other regional airports as well.
