The New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) released updated COVID-19 guidelines ahead of the state’s universal mask mandate for schools expiring on Wednesday, March 2.
The updated NYS DOH guidelines, released on Tuesday, March 1, calls for students, staff, and teachers to wear masks to school if returning during days 6-10 of their isolation period after being exposed to COVID-19, according to News10 NBC. The guidelines also allow counties and school districts to reinstate the universal masking requirement if they so choose.
Additionally, if someone in school has been exposed- or is likely to have been exposed- to COVID-19, that person should be tested for the virus unless they have had a “lab-confirmed” case of COVID-19 within the past three months.
