Before Covid-19 forced many organizations to shut their doors, the Boys & Girls Club of Geneva and St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy had launched a partnership where programs available at the Academy could be offered to Boys & Girls Club youth. Transportation and equipment were figured out, resulting in a dance program held at the Club and piano lessons offered at the Academy. Now with the world reopening, the two organizations are looking to launch their next project: Beginning Ukulele.
Starting this spring, strings instructor Bernardo Marcondes Rodrigues will offer beginner ukulele lessons over a 16 week period, ending in a public concert. Ages will vary with a class size max of 12.
Objectives for this new partnership are straightforward. Instructor Rodrigues says he hopes participants will understand the fundamentals of music, learn the standard methods of reading music notation and chord charts, acquire basic techniques for ukulele playing, and develop skills to perform music of various styles.
