Geneva Concerts brings the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra to Geneva’s Smith Opera House, 82 Seneca Street, on Friday, March 4th at 7:30 pm. The concert will feature the RPO and famed pianist Olga Kern playing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F major and the RPO performing three pieces inspired by the music and sounds of Latin America.
Olga Kern is recognized as one of her generation’s great pianists. Born in Russia to a family of musicians linked to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff, she jump-started her career in the US by winning the gold medal at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She has visited the Smith before and is a great favorite of the Finger Lakes audience.
The RPO will be led by guest conductor François López-Ferrer, who has wide experience in Europe, the US and Latin America. He will be offering Alberto Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia, music inspired by rural Argentina; Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, reflecting the sounds and rhythms of Havana; and Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, which blends classical and Andean folk music traditions.
Please check the Smith website for the theater’s latest COVID policy.
Tickets for adults and seniors are $30, full-time college students $10, children through Grade 12 are free.
