Tompkins County Legislator Mike Sigler announced his candidacy for New York’s newly redrawn 22nd Congressional District on Thursday, February 24.
Sigler, a Republican from Lansing, is seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives seat. He is the second candidate for NY-22 from Tompkins County, the other being Vanessa Fajans-Turner (D), who announced her candidacy earlier this week.

“It will be an uphill battle in this new Democratic-leaning district, but that’s something we know a lot about in Tompkins,” said Sigler, according to Ithaca Voice. “Even though my district voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 by over 40 points, I won that same district by six against a well-funded and hard-working opponent.”
