CDC updates guidance for COVID-19 mRNA vaccines

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recently updated their guidelines regarding wait time before receiving second dose of the mRNA vaccine for COVID-19.

The most recent guidelines from the CDC advise people to wait 8 weeks before receiving the second vaccine dose, particularly men between 12 and 39 years old.

The previous guidelines said people should wait three weeks before receiving second Pfizer dose, and 4 for Moderna. These guidelines are still in place for those over 65 years old and immunocompromised individuals, according to Binghamton News34.

The CDC has updated guidelines partially due to men ages 12 to 39 years old being susceptible to myocarditis, a heart muscle inflammation. Research shows a longer wait time between doses may decrease the likelihood of developing the condition. Still, getting myocarditis because of the vaccine remains a small risk for most.
