The New York Yankees will retire former outfielder Paul O’Neill’s No. 21 jersey in a pre-game ceremony on August 21, the team announced on Tuesday.
O’Neill will become the 23rd Yankees player or manager to have his number retired.
He played in New York from 1993-2001 and helped the Yankees win four World Series. O’Neill also won the American League batting title in 1994 with a .359 average. Over 1,254 games with the Yankees, he hit .303 with 304 doubles, 185 home runs and an .869 OPS.
O’Neill currently works as an analyst for YES Network.
