Police say around 9:33 p.m. officers responded to the 200 block of Hancock Street for an assault in the city of Ithaca.
Upon arrival they found a victim who sustained sounds to his face and head, which are believed to have been caused by an ‘air rifle’, according to a news release. The victim said that immediately prior to the incident he was walking his dog in the area when he was approached by a red sedan traveling south on 1st Street.
When the red sedan was driving by him the victim indicated that he heard what sounded to be ‘rapid fire’ shots- and after realized he had been struck in the head and face by either a BB or pellets. The person stated that the red sedan continued south on 1st Street towards Cascadilla.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained.
At this point the investigation is active and as result no further information is going to be released. Anyone who may have information or may have witnessed any parts f this incident is encouraged to contact IPD. They are also asking for anyone with doorbell cameras or other home surveillance systems to review footage for possible leads.
