The Tampa Bay Lightning claimed forward Gemel Smith off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday and assigned him to the Syracuse Crunch.
The 27-year-old is familiar with Syracuse as he appeared in 53 games with the Crunch over the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Over those 53 games, he recorded 46 points (25+22).
Smith has also skated in eight games with Tampa Bay, tallying four assists.
Syracuse hosts Rochester on Saturday night. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
