Seneca County decision to oppose a proposed bill to alter the Western Region Off-Track Betting Corp’s board of directors is echoed by state Senator Pam Helming, who says she will vote against the bill.
The Seneca County Board of Supervisors voted to unanimously oppose the bill last week, according to Finger Lakes Times.
“This bill dilutes the representation and the voices of our rural counties on the board,” said Sen. Helming, whose district includes Seneca, Ontario, and Wayne counties. “And it is a blatant example of government overreach, allowing the governor and Senate and Assembly leaders to appoint one member each. To my knowledge, that’s never been done before.”
