Cayuga County and state officials met last week to discuss ongoing emergency services challenges.
The meeting on February 10 regarding EMS and fire department services was hosted at Cayuga Community College and attended by over 35 people, according to The Citizen.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck hosted the meeting where issues like pay, increased calls to emergency services, worker burnout, staff shortages, and reducing barriers to entry for those looking to join the field were discussed.
Follow-up discussions are expected to be conducted in the near future, with local and state officials reviewing their options to address challenges, some of which Cayuga County’s director of emergency services Dale Currier says have been around for a decade.
