NYS Senate Republicans attempt to end mask mandate in schools

New York state Senate Republicans attempted to end the state’s mask requirement in schools in a vote on Monday, February 14.

Republicans tried to add an amendment to an education bill that would repeal the mask mandate, according to News10 NBC. The effort failed as Republicans are outnumbered in the NYS Senate.

The GOP effort comes as parents around New York question the wisdom of continuing mask mandates in schools following Governor Kathy Hochul lifting the indoor mask requirements for businesses last week.
