Concerns mount over Auburn smoke shops

Auburn officials are exploring their options in terms of restricting the number of smoke shops in the city.

City officials have reportedly received complaints regrading a number of new smoke shops that have opened in the area, according to The Citizen. Auburn Smoke Shop, located at 67 Franklin St., has been the subject of multiple criminal investigations in recent months.

On Monday, February 7, the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force and Auburn Police Department conducted a raid Auburn Smoke Shop, where they seized thousands of illegal products including marijuana, flavored vaping devices, and untaxed cigarettes.

At the Auburn City Council’s February 10 meeting, Auburn Police Chief James Slayton discussed the search warrant for Auburn Smoke Shop, through which he says over 18,000 items were seized. Slayton said a potential arrest is being coordinated.

Concerns regarding Auburn Smoke Shop will be brought in front of the city’s nuisance board on Wednesday, February 16.
