On Saturday February 12 around 5:42 p.m. the Cortlandville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1244 Starr Rd.
Upon arrival, Cortlandville firefighters found a 30×60 storage building with heavy smoke showing from all sides. Firefighters immediately deployed hand-lines and began an aggressive fire attack. Due to the volume of fire and contents inside the structure they were forced to attack the fire from the outside.
Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes. The building and contents sustained heavy fire damage. The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
The Cortlandville Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Homer, Virgil and Dryden Fire Departments, Cortland County Department of Emergency Response and Communications and TLC-EMS also assisted on scene. McLean and McGraw Fire Departments provided standby coverage.
While Cortlandville was operating, department’s standing by answered two other alarms for Cortlandville, including a residential fire alarm and a reported fire at West Campus Apartments.
They were false alarms, according to Cortlandville.
