IRS: Where do I get my tax transcript?

Your tax transcript, or your last tax return filed with the IRS, may not have been filed away last tax season. There are ways to get it.

The document will hide information like names, addresses, and your SSN for safety purposes.

How can I get my tax transcript from the IRS?

There are a few ways you can get your transcript including by phone, online, or mail.

If you want to get it online, you can use Get Transcript Online to download and print your transcript.

You need to verify it’s you with the Secure Access process.

By calling 1-800-908-9947 you can request the transcript to be mailed to you.

If you want to send a request through the mail, you can fill out Form 4506-T or Form 4506-T-EZ and send it to the IRS.

How to get a tax transcript from the IRS online

Visit Get Your Tax Record to obtain a copy of your tax record.

You can register, continue, choose to use Get Transcript Online, and login.

Once you’re registered and have verified your identity you can use the tool.

You may not use the tool under Guest User.


Free tax filing options with the IRS

This tool is for individual taxpayers, any other entities can’t use it.

It can take 2-4 weeks for an electronically filed tax transcript to be sent.

If you mailed your return it may take up to 6 weeks.

You can’t get your transcript until the middle of May if you fail to pay the full amount you owed.
